For anyone not familiar with High School Musical, the first question that will come to his or her mind is, "What is it all about?" *Silence. Long uncomfortable silence*
For the unfamiliar, High School Musical is a musical set on a high school and it is about a pair of high schoolers who want to join a musical but their highschoolmates disapprove of this musical thing but then they still managed to audition for the high school musical to be staged in their high school written by their highschoolmate who writes musical and to be spearheaded by their highschool drama teacher who loves musicals.

I got FREE! FREE! FREE! tickets to this local production of Disney's High School Musical and watched it yesterday at the Meralco Theater together with an army of parents, yayas and little boys and girls in Crocs and Nintendo DS's. The boy playing Ryan looks like Ryan remarked Resty upon seeing the show's tarps displayed at the lobby. I recognize him. He's the boy from QTV's POSH! Hahaha. I think.

Hey look it's Little Big Star Big Division Star. Sam Concepcion plays the anorexic Troy Bolton. Haha. Kidding. Sam is just a young boy and it's normal for young boys, with still developing bodies, to look a little thin, right? Sam Concepcion is like Christian Bautista 2.0. The 2.o there is for the dancing skills. Hey there's Gabriella! And Sharpay! And Ryan! So the two leads sing Start of Something New and the kids, known for short attention spans, pay attention. And I mean PAY ATTENTION. And they PAY ATTENTION all throughout the show, and they discuss among themselves during the intermission! (They changed a little bit of this song and that song, this song was never used in the tv-movie version but it's in the soundtrack, In the movie it's like this, in the movie Troy is this, Gabriella is like that, etc.) ANd these are 4-5-6 year old kids. Amazing. Little boys are even SINGING in the corridors during their restroom break.

The biggest surprise of the show is the very good blending of Troy's and Gabriella's vocals. The kids go crazy everytime they sing together. The biggest non-surprise is the Get Your Head in the Game number. No jawdropping basketball dance moves. But hey it's a live show. One mistake and it could be a disaster.

Special congratulations to Gidget's sister who plays one of the cheerleaders. I think she's the one who winked during one of the numbers. Yes, I notice these details. I even noticed one of Troy's teammates wearing a PETRELLI jersey. My favorite performers in the play aside from one of the cheerleaders and Mrs. Darbus are: the one who played Taylor McKessie, the earthworm and the Chemistry(?) professor professor who was also the quiz master in Gabriella's Chemistry(?) competition.

Ushers are allowed to confiscate your cellphone if you use it during the show. How fun could it be if they also use Mrs. Darbus buckets to collect the phones.

A year ago, I bought a DVD (pirated) of Disney's High School Musical and it has a bonus feature - Instructional Video of the HSM dance steps! I never tried it. Honest.
